11/11/11 (One-Ones and Elevens)

Uploaded on 11/9/2011

What is the significance of this date? Let's take this day to know and love God more. God desires to bless us -- He is a God who blesses and wants to use His people to bless others. How can you bless someone else today? May we grow closer to Jesus and realize His blessings for our lives, and may we flee from sin so we can live holy in His sight.

Discussion questions

1. God often brings new beginnings to our lives. What are some 'new beginnings' that you desire in your life?
God is the same God in Genesis who created all things. He makes us new creations through Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). When we are with Him in Heaven, we will see Him make all things new (Revelation 21:5). Think about things in your life here that you desire God to transform, and in which you really would love to see Him bring newness or revival. 2. What are some significant dates in your life? Why are they significant to you?
In reflection, dates can easily take on great importance. For many, birthdays are special. If you know Jesus and you remember when, then your spiritual birthday can be a day of delightful commemoration of the Lord's work. Date of marriage, birthdays of children, holidays, etc. are all examples of dates that many consider important. Dates such as 11/11/11, 11/12/13, etc. are fun to note, but just because they're numerically patterned doesn't mean that something globally significant will occur on that date. Even more, noting the disparity between Gregorian and Julian calendars should give us caution as to someone making a claim that a specific numeric date really holds any weight. Remember that Jesus stated in Matthew 24 that no man will know the day nor the hour of His return (Matthew 24:36). We just have to be ready, and much of that involves living significant even during seemingly insignificant and mundane dates.

3. What are some ways in which you believe God can use you to bring newness to someone else's life today?
God has blessed us so much, regardless of how we feel. How has He blessed you? How can you bless others? In Philippians 2, Paul states that we should look out for the needs of others above our own, and throughout Scripture, humility and kindness are greatly rewarded by God. Pursue these things! Think of some tangible ways that you can show the love of God to your neighbor today.
